Not So Fast: When and How to Hold a Manifestation Determination

Wednesday, March 22, 2017

Hollis Peterson and Kara Siegel will present Not So Fast: When and How to Hold a Manifestation Determination at the 24th Annual California Charter Schools Conference in Sacaramento, California.

When a student with special needs (or a student about whose disability the school has knowledge) is recommended for expulsion or suspension totaling 10 days or more, a manifestation determination must be held. Attendees will learn how a “basis of knowledge” is established, how the IEP team determines whether the student misconduct is caused by or has a direct and substantial relationship to a disability, and what steps to take if a relationship is found.
